Patience
Uncategorized — Posted on July 23, 2008 at 6:33 amIt’s been not quite two days since I unleashed my 2600-word profile on Don Hanni Jr and still no real response in the Vindy comments. I don’t have real-time access to visitor stats on my Vindy blog, so I have no idea if anyone is even reading it. And there’s been only one comment so far (faithful Lucy, I know I can count on you!). So, I’ll just try to be patient until Monday, when I get to see the numbers. If you had a chance to read it, let me know what you thought.

Ok I will confess. I read it and didn’t have the guts to elicit a hanni attack with my response. (Not that, as you know, I mind generating controversy with my responses, but these vindy comments seem to combine blindness, meanness and stupidity into a frightening mass of hate. I just don’t need that after the wallet stealing and the vagrant shunning, you know?) Anyway, my comment would have been more of a public inquiry and sound off about the being laid in state in the rotunda. While I respect any family’s wishes to honor their loved one as they see fit, I want to know. Does anyone who contributes to the community have that option? My friend Art makes coffee at the salvation army every afternoon. He has given back to our community in so many ways that are not public, could he be laid in state? What about our friend Susie, Tyler? Would she not be a fantastic candidate for the rotunda? I could go on with the list as there are many many people who work just as hard as hanni did and have been just as (if not dare I say more?) generous with their time and money who have passed on or will pass on someday. Is the differentiating factor that he is a politician? Then do you see why it has a fascist flavor to it? I know. Im preaching to the choir. Just wanted to let you know that by providing the big picture, you helped me firm up my rotunda objections in my mind. Great piece of work though!
Thanks for your feedback. Yes, good question on why Hanni gets to be honored with a viewing in the rotunda. Is it stature? Or wealth?
Would be nice to do a series of profiles on the “people who make Youngstown work”–like Susie and your friend Art.
I read it. I edited it. I’m flattered that you included my changes, which were few as the writing was nearly perfect at the onset;)
Here’s my take on the whole no comment thing–many of the usual vindy commentors (me and George412 excepted) are too mean, blind, and stupid to follow the article and don’t quite know how to respond to such sophisicated writing.
Plus they’re all fighting about the WRTA.
However, I think it might be fun to steal crseum’s idea and blog about all of the local folks who are rotunda-worthy.
It’s definitely on the list! Maybe I can talk Todd Franko into a series for the print edition?
