McCain-Palin Musings

I’ve gotta give McCain credit for his bold pick of Sarah Palin as VP. It’s an impressive choice. He placates the Evangelical bloc, he invites disaffected women Clinton supporters, and he finds a way to shake up his moribund campaign.
Even as an Obama supporter, I don’t think Biden was a tremendous choice. It doesn’t speak particularly to the change theme, though it does help on the racial bias and perceived experience/foreign policy fronts.
McCain plus any other old white guy were going to be a challenge to beat, only in the sense that they had the Republican noise machine behind them. This, however, is a game changer.
The race would be much more enjoyable, I must say, if McCain had been joined by Michael Palin.

Hope I contributed a bit to increasing your awareness of the “racial bias and perceived experience/foreign policy fronts” during lunch last week :)
A few Michael Palin quotes:
“Contrary to what the politicians and religious leaders would like us to believe, the world won’t be made safer by creating barriers between people.”
“Armageddon is not around the corner. This is only what the people of violence want us to believe. The complexity and diversity of the world is the hope for the future.”
“I know that we shall meet problems along the way, but I’d far rather see for myself what’s going on in the world outside, than rely on newspapers, television, politicians and religious leaders to tell me what I should be thinking.”
And of course, there’s the crisp scene from MP and the Holy Grail (with Palin as Sir Galahad)
Sir Lancelot: We were in the nick of time. You were in great peril.
Sir Galahad: I don’t think I was.
Sir Lancelot: Yes, you were. You were in terrible peril.
Sir Galahad: Look, let me go back in there and face the peril.
Sir Lancelot: No, it’s too perilous.
Sir Galahad: Look, it’s my duty as a knight to sample as much peril as I can.
Sir Lancelot: No, we’ve got to find the Holy Grail. Come on.
Sir Galahad: Oh, let me have just a little bit of peril?
Sir Lancelot: No. It’s unhealthy.
Sir Galahad: I bet you’re gay.
Sir Lancelot: Am not.
LOL! A welcome addition to the thread :-)
Jeanette has me convinced Michael Palin would be a better choice for VP. As one of the disaffected women Clinton supporters, I have to confess that, at least for me, her gender does not cancel out her stances on abortion rights or environmental issues. I honestly don’t know what’s more alarming, that McCain thought this might bring in Hilary people or that some of her supporters are never going to look past the “her” to see that, politically speaking, she is way more of a scary “old white guy” than McCain is. In a word, YIKES.
